The Arcare Cheltenham community gathered around client, Teresa to help celebrated her 100th birthday.
Teresa (Tete) Fontana was born on Monday 30th June 1919 in Italy.
Unfortunately Teresa’s mother didn’t survive childbirth, and her father was left to raise her on his own. Teresa attended a strict Catholic school, which was run by nuns.
In 1957, Teresa moved to Australia by herself . It was then, she met her first husband and love of her life, Pete. Teresa said “I was very excited to marry my husband!”
Pete was a prisoner of war during World War II and he unfortunately died at a young age. Teresa was left devastated by Pete’s death.
Teresa kept busy, as the leader of a girls group and Italian club in Australia. The girls group focused on making clothes such as dress from preloved fabrics. Teresa said, ” I loved making and saving dresses.”.
In the Italian club, Teresa acted as their secretary and spent her time, organising their social events and attending church and choir with the group.
In the 1970’s, Teresa fell in love again, when she met Ugo at a friend’s house party. Teresa gushed, saying “He persuaded me with his charms and finally won me over!”
It was during this time, when Teresa began working as a nurse and met her friend, Gina. Gina and Teresa enjoyed having dinner at each others homes, almost every night, and they have now been friends for almost 50 years.
The Arcare Cheltenham team threw an intimate party for Teresa on her birthday, with team members presenting Teresa with a cake, balloons and a few special presents.
The Arcare Cheltenham community would like to wish Teresa a very happy 100th birthday.
