Joycelyn Lee, a resident at Arcare Sanctuary Manors in Hope Island, was born in England and is ‘a royal fan through and through.’ Despite moving to Australia in 1994, she still keeps up to date with all royal news through her brother who emails regularly from England, as well as reading British newspapers.
‘I love reading everything related to royalty and London’ she said. ‘I have papers in print going back to Diana’s wedding but I don’t think I have any of Charles and Camilla,’ Joycelyn said.
Joycelyn fondly remembers taking photos of Queen Elizabeth when she was in Gloucester for the opening of the Duke of Beaufort flats in 1980. ‘I used to live quite close to royalty,’ Joycelyn said ‘the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester lived in Richmond Park, and eight miles away was Prince Charles and then Princess Anne.’
When Joycelyn was a child she would regularly visit Hampton Court Palace where she enjoyed walking through the gardens. Joycelyn laughs when she remembers, ‘when we were 12 or 13 my friend and I used to skip Sunday school to go. It was just beautiful there.’
