Our Saunders sensitive care unit at Arcare North Shore has gone through another wonderful uplift but this time it’s something indoors.
The lifestyle department had the creative idea of forming of a memory tree in the residence.
So they decided to contact a local artist to paint something eye-catching and beautiful for everyone to appreciate.
Watching the process of the artist painting it freehand was truly interesting and mesmerising.
They decided to keep it black to allow opportunities for the tree to be decorated with different colours and garlands, depending on the season or occasion.
The tree takes up the entire wall of our activity room which is around 6m long and 7ft in height.
Each branch symbolises a client from the Saunders unit.
The client’s individual photos are centre to the life they have lived.
The tree’s branches, which symbolise their journey through life, can be adorned with photos capturing the most important moments or people in their lives.
We encourage family members to continue adding to the branches by contributing photos that are remembered as special or heart-warming for the clients.
Some have said, “This is a wonderful way to help my family remember our beautiful dog and the bakery we used to own.”
This month, the tree also represents the beginning of Spring, where the birds are coming out, the butterflies are moving and the leaves are becoming green once again after the cold winter.
“We love this tree. It is really a great addition to this room and has such wonderful meaning to all of us”, the clients said.
This tree brings so much happiness to those who share the branches and we all love decorating it to suit the clients at Arcare North Shore.
