Arcare Knox resident, Ethel had only one wish for her 99th birthday, to ride a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
After watching a travel program a number of years ago, a Harley ride has been the one, and only item on Ethel’s bucket list.
“It’s always been something I’ve wanted to do,” Ethel said.
“I just saw it one day and thought that it looked like a fun thing that I should try. I’ve always said that for my birthday, I wanted to sit or ride on a Harley with a big, muscly, bearded man.” Ethel laughed.
After years of wanting to ride a Harley, Ethel’s son, Bill and Arcare Knox lifestyle coordinator, Lee Pratt worked together to finally make her dream come true for her 99th birthday.
Ethel’s special day finally arrived on Sunday 11th July. Looking the part, Ethel donned a leather jacket and a helmet, as she mounted the Harley Davidson with the support from the Arcare Knox team.
Harley Davidson Trike Tours Melbourne owner, Andrew said, “It’s not everyday a 99-year-old rides a Harley. I’m excited to be a part of this special moment for Ethel. It’s something she’ll hopefully remember for the rest of her life.”
Seen off by her son, Bill and team members, lee and Bec, Ethel was beyond excited for the hour-long drive around the Dandenong Ranges.
Ethel moved into the Arcare Knox community in the middle of lockdown in March 2020, and moved all the way from Adelaide.
While the move has been a big change for Ethel, Lifestyle Coordinator, Lee has said that she’s settled wonderfully, and attributes their success to Arcare’s Relationship-First model.
“Ethel has formed quite close relationships with other residents and other members of team since moving in, and the consistency of those relationships, I think has made all the difference.” Lee said.
“I just love Lee from lifestyle, she has made every day so special for me since moving here.” Ethel said.
