On Sunday 23rd February, Arcare Cheltenham client, Doris Stewart, otherwise known as Dolly, celebrated her 100th birthday.
Dolly is a quiet, yet active woman, who enjoys the comfort of familiar surroundings. Dolly will often attend the Cheltenham residence’s lifestyle activities, however Dolly also enjoys maintaining her independence; frequently finding ways to keep herself busy aside from planned activities.
“I have been active all my life,” Dolly said, “I used to love playing sports such as tennis, however now I find other ways to keep myself busy and active.”
Dolly defines herself as being: happy, caring, a good listener, friendly, hard-working, loving and a bit of a homebody.
Dolly’s daughter, Janine regularly visits her at the Arcare Cheltenham community, and the pair often enjoy catching up over a cup of coffee at the onsite cafe.
“I love when my daughter comes to visit. She always brings me fresh flowers to brighten up my day, and I enjoy going on walks with her around the residence.” Dolly said.
Clients, family, friends and team members were invited to attend Dolly’s milestone soiree at the Cheltenham community.
The Cheltenham team decorated the residence with 100th balloons, celebratory banners and fresh flowers, especially for the occasion.
The catering team also worked tirelessly to bake and decorate Dolly’s birthday cake. The team decided to decorate the cake in blue flower pattern, as they know that blue is Dolly’s favourite colour.
Everyone gathered around the centenarian to sing Happy Birthday, and watch as Dolly blew out her milestone 100 candles.
Late, when asked by the Arcare Cheltenham team, what the key to living a long and happy life was, Dolly responded with, “You need to live your life comfortably and be content with what you have and who you are. You should always stay active and eat healthy. That’s the key to truly being happy and living a long life.”
