At Arcare Aged Care, the lifestyle teams invite community members to share their musical talents and skills with the residents. This is in compliance with current safety regulations as the safety of our residents is paramount at all times.
In celebration of World Music Day 2021, the Arcare Seven Hills community had a special guest appearance by Pete Memphis who gave his best impersonation of popular music idol, Elvis Presley.
“It was an incredible performance, bringing all of the classic Elvis hits back to life,” says Lauren Smith, Lifestyle Coordinator. A memorable and nostalgic hit for the whole community, these performances can often send residents and team members down memory lane.
One of the residents in particular, Elizabeth reminisced about her late husband who recently passed away 14 months ago. He was an Elvis look-a-like, which was one of the reasons why Elizabeth fell in love with him at first sight.
During the performance there were many tears of emotion as ‘Elvis’ sang some of Elizabeth’s most cherished songs from her memories of her husband. “I miss him everyday and seeing Elvis like this was such a beautiful moment to remember him,” Elizabeth shared.
The residents rallied around Elizabeth and supported her while performer Pete Memphis invited Elizabeth up to dance as a back-up dancer with lifestyle coordinator Lauren. Together they performed the Blue Hawaii song, dressed in hula outfits.
Pete (Elvis) then dedicated one of the songs to Elizabeth. He also gifted her a free cover CD for her to keep. “It was a lovely day of memories for all,” Lauren adds.
The lifestyle team continue to support residents at Arcare Aged Care by offering engaging lifestyle programs that meet a variety of interests.
