A dolphin dream come true for Shirley at Sea World

At 74 years old, client Shirley Mansell from Arcare Pimpama is living life to the fullest.

After being diagnosed with cancer, Shirley and the team at Arcare Pimpama knew every moment together was even more precious than ever.

“It’s just about going on that journey with people, if we can make a difference in someone’s lives, we should do it,” Residence Manager Vicki said.

So they decided to fulfill her biggest wish and tick off something that has been on her bucket list for a very long time.

When she was younger, she taught others how to swim and even participated in swimming competitions in her 40s.

However, she has not been back in the water for about 20 years.

For as long as she can remember, Shirley has dreamed of swimming with dolphins and today, her wish finally came true.

Shirley finally got into the waters at Sea World’s Dolphin Animal Adventure park and she had a splash with Howie the rescue dolphin.

“I’ve been wanting to do this for so long. I used to tell my daughter I’m gonna swim with the dolphins one day. And I was excited when Arcare said they organised it. And now I’m going to the real thing,”

“It’s a dream, it’s just so good. Other people should do it. It’s just great!” Shirley said.

Along with other team members at Arcare Pimpama, Lifestyle Coordinator Kurt is working on achieving the personal wishes of Arcare Pimpama’s clients.
