Preparations for the inaugural Arcare Taigum Masquerade Party began in July with art and craft sessions.
Residents were busily decorating masks for themselves and others for the masquerade party.
The Lifestyle Team were kept busy visiting residents and asking for song requests for the night.
On the day of the event the Lifestyle Team, with help of Jeff from Maintenance, rearranged the café and foyer areas and decorated the space.
The theme was elegant black and gold and the space was decorated with helium balloons, masks and swirls hanging throughout the area.
A photobooth area was also set up with a masquerade backdrop and props in the foyer.
At 6pm residents, staff and families started to gather in the café area.
At 6:30pm Cathy our Lifestyle Coordinator welcomed everyone to the party and thanked everyone for coming.
Janelle our Residence Manager gave a speech thanking everyone for attending and talking about the past year which included mentioning our first residents Thelma, Carola and Hans who arrived on the very first day.
Cathy, then handed over to the entertainment.
Chi Chi (which is made up of Greg and Rose Powell – the son and daughter in law of our resident, Aline), were the entertainers for the night and really got the party started.
Chi Chi made sure to shout out to each resident when they played a requested song.
Beris, was honoured to be mentioned and said, “I don’t know when I requested that, but I love that song”.
Guests were treated to finger food and mocktails while singing and tapping their toes along with the music.
Families headed over to the photobooth for an instant photo to remember the night by.
After everyone was worn out from singing and dancing; it was time for cake.
Our café attendant Emma made the beautiful cake for all to enjoy.
The cake was cut by two of our first residents, Thelma and Carola, while the guests all sang happy birthday.
As the cake was enjoyed Chi Chi continued their show.
Charlotte, a former musician said, “The entertainers were outstanding, and I enjoyed singing the night away.”
It was a fantastic night and both families and residents said thank you for a great night.
Paul, a family member said, “What a really great night. It was a good idea to have the residents make their own masks for the event as well.”
Aline said, “I am very proud to have my family performing tonight. They were wonderful.”
Connie, a family member emailed to us, the next day stating, “We all enjoyed the party last night, well done to you and your activities coordinators”.
A big thank you to Stan our Chef Manager for the food and drinks, Emma our Café Attendant for making the cake, Cathy and Kerry our Lifestyle Team for the organisation and planning, Janelle our Residence Manager for the idea for the party and her support of the event and to all staff who helped out on the night, the rostered afternoon staff, Karin, Sarah, Jackie, Nirjala, and Lucy.
Before leaving, guests were given a small party favour to end the night on a high note.
The party kicked on until 8pm when everyone was well and truly ready for bed.
