During the month of February, a few clients from Arcare Springwood joined the Baking Club, hosted by Chef Darrell and Lifestyle Co-ordinator Rebecca.
Clients, Susan, Daphne and Maureen were all very excited for this opportunity to get to know the chef and to chat about the current menu and provide informal feedback.
The Baking Club is also a great opportunity for clients to reminisce about cooking days and to share their tips and tricks.
After the Baking Club, the clients are also invited to go on a behind-the-scenes tour of the main kitchen.
Darrell shares with the interested clients about a day in the kitchen and what it is like to cater for 90 clients!
On the kitchen tours, the clients find out about how much milk and bread will last the clients for a week, they see how things are made, stored and then presented to their tables.
This program is a great opportunity for clients to build a relationship with our residence chef and to learn about his journey that brought him to Arcare.
The clients were also able to provide informal and formal feedback regarding their choices and preferences of the meals they are served.
During Baking Club, we have had clients provide their own personal recipes and tips, some clients were members of the Country Women’s Association (CWA).
Last year, we had a visit from a CWA member and were presented with two cookbooks.
We all look forward to Baking Club each fortnight as we are not just making sconces and banana bread, we are making memories, building communities and feeding our hearts.
