Firefighting has become a family tradition for the Coombes. Stan, a resident from Arcare Caboolture, was a firefighter for 35 years, working at different stations all over Brisbane. He remembers working when the tram station in Brisbane went up in flames, taking the firefighters days to put out.
Stan’s eldest son Wayne has just completed 40 years of firefighting, currently working at Aranda Hill Station.
Rodney, Stan’s other son, is the baby of the family, only just completing his 35th year in the fire brigade.
The men haven’t branched out to posing for firefighter calendars (yet).
