Happy Indian Independence Day!

Our 5-star aged care community, Arcare Carnegie celebrated Indian Independence Day with clients, family and team members.

Lifestyle coordinator, Lou said “It was important for us to recognise Indian culture here at Arcare Carnegie, as not only do many of our team members have an Indian heritage, but it also demonstrates our multicultural values and inclusivity to our clients.”

Clients and team members came together to enjoy a traditional Indian feast, which included butter chicken, naan bread, curry puffs, gulab jamun and curried rice. Everyone enjoyed mingling over the delicious food.

After lunch, several team members decided to put on a Bollywood dance extravaganza for the clients and family members to enjoy. The team members had been practicing their Bollywood dancing for weeks, in preparation for the day.

Clients and family members gathered in the upstairs stairs lounge to enjoy some afternoon tea and wine, before the performance began.

Team members dressed in traditional Indian garments for the performance. The clients smiled and praised their carers for their bright, colourful and beautiful garments.

A range of dances were performed by the group throughout the afternoon. The clients clapped along to the beat of the music, and laughed when some team members tried their best to stay keep up with the group.

At the end of the performance, all the team members got up to do a impromptu dance for the clients. Everyone danced around the room, as the crowd cheered them on.

“It was such a lovely afternoon. It really makes me and others feel valued when a variety of cultural traditions are recognised and respected. It definitely makes us all feel welcome here at Arcare, more like family.” One client said.
