Helping grant a mother’s wish

Residents at Arcare Slacks Creek have had the privilege of giving back to their community by volunteering for local charitable organisation, Mummy’s Wish.

Mummy’s Wish supports local families with children younger than 12 years old while their mother is receiving treatment for cancer.

Over the past 10 years Mummy’s Wish have supported over 2500 Australian families by providing support to mums while receiving treatment.

As part of their work Mummy’s Wish supply comfort bears with voice recordable hearts inside, so that mum’s can record a message for their little ones to listen to whenever they are missing their mothers.

Arcare Slacks Creek residents have been assisting by stuffing these very special teddy bears that will make their way to local children.

Our residents are very proud to take part in something so meaningful and are grateful to have the opportunity to give back to their community.

The residents have welcomed this opportunity with open arms, and although the bears are going to a good home, it can be hard to place these beautiful teddy bears in the box to send back.

However, the bears will go to their new homes knowing that they have been made with love and that they have been handled with care before we return them to those who truly need them.

Some residents like Verda and Audrey set themselves a challenge during their normal morning tea ritual, how many bears could they stuff in one hour?

Verda and Audrey managed to stuff an impressive 23 bears!

Residents weren’t the only ones getting in on the action.

Volunteers and staff members also got involved to lend a helping hand for such a great cause.

With many boxes of teddy bears still to work through, helping hands are always welcome!

Arcare Slacks Creek Turns 10 Years Young

Arcare Slacks Creek recently celebrated 10 years with a party that had all the trimmings.

The theme was a beach party with beach balls, beach towels, beach chairs, Hawaiian lays, palm trees and hula dancers.

Guests and residents alike enjoyed feasting on ice creams from the ice cream bar as well as a snag straight from the BBQ and mouth-watering cocktails.

The crowd was ready for the festivity to begin.

After the entertainment and a few cold cocktails, it was time to cut the cake.

Hazel has made her home with us since 2012 and was proud as punch to have had the honour of cutting the birthday cake alongside Natasha our residence manager.

Hazel moved from her retirement village on the Sunshine coast to Arcare Slacks Creek in 2012 so she could be closer to her family.

“From admin staff to care staff to cleaners and catering staff, everyone has made me feel a part of a big family,” Hazel said.

When Hazel was looking for her new home she needed to know all her needs would be met and most of all she needed her new home to feel like home.

“Living here at Arcare Slacks Creek throughout the years and many more to come has been a wonderful experience and an active one at that,” Hazel said.

The Arcare Slacks Creek 10th Birthday Party was one to remember with residents speaking about the event long after it had wrapped up.

Heres to another 10 years!
