The smell of sea salt and driftwood filled the craft room at Arcare North Lakes, as clients created beach themed mobiles.
Clients and family members gathered on the day, wondering what the ‘Beach and bead’ activity could possibly be.
Clients used a collection of driftwood, sea shells and an array of colour beads to handcraft a mobile display together with wire.
Everyone had the creative freedom to design patterns as well as choose from many sizes and colours of beads.
Such an activity brought back great childhood beach memories for many of the clients.
‘I can still smell the salt air in the driftwood’ said one client.
Some spoke of their walks along the beaches with their families, and others shared stories about making friends with strangers on the beach.
Many agreed that picnics on the beach was what they enjoyed most; enjoying the sea and smell of the salt air.
The stories, the aroma of the ocean and the beach items for the activity took everyone on their own little trip to the beach.
‘There are remnants of sand still embedded in the driftwood,’ said one client.
The craft activity itself was enjoyed by everyone, as they picked their items and created their own masterpiece.
‘I like the shapes of these shells,’ a client said.
‘Not one is alike the other!’
And in saying that, no one mobile was alike the other as well.
Many North Lakes clients how have beautiful beach themed mobiles hanging in their suites.
Not only does this make everyone proud of their creative flair, but it takes them back to times by the beach every time they see their work.
Who knew that washed up sea shells and driftwood could make such art!
