It’s a lovely surprise to receive a card in the mail from a friend, and it’s even better when that card is handmade.
At the recent Portarlington Community Market Day, guests enjoyed participating in the card making workshops which was facilitated by the crafty clients in the community.
Betty, one of the keen card makers, crafted several beautiful cards, each with their own interesting design. There was jewels, 1920s designs and some phrases on the inside like ‘You’re gorgeous’.
The card group was selling their pieces of work to guests and many were snapped up for people to give out to family and friends.
When Pauline, Relationship Coordinator at Arcare head office, was gifted one of these cards for her birthday she was so impressed with it and even more delighted to hear the great story about Betty hand-making them.
Seeing as though Pauline writes one card every day, she spoke with Tammy, lifestyle coordinator at Portarlington, and asked if Betty wouldn’t mind selling her some cards.
Betty carefully created a bundle of beautiful cards and placed each one in a plastic slip. She then sent them off to Pauline, all the way from Portarlington to Moorabbin.
Pauline was thrilled to see the finished result and in a matter of weeks she has already sent out over a dozen. She is now looking forward to purchasing her next lot.
