Bernice shared with the Surrey Hills Community her family’s story about their involvement in war during a moving Anzac Day service.
The service was held in partnership with the local RSL, and the Surrey Hills Community welcomed their representative Lindsay to join them.
Bernice shared with the community a story about her husband’s grandparents which is a true reflection of the impact the war had on many families around the world.
Their four sons went off to the World War I and thankfully returned safely. Tragically, just before the outbreak of World War II, one of their sons died.
The remaining three sons again went off to war, much to their parent’s dismay. While they returned safely, their mother had passed away during their time spent overseas. The family believe that she had died from a broken heart.
Sadly, Bernice’s story is one shared by many families across the world due to the devastating impact of war. They are events which have touched the lives of many people, and still continue to shape the lives of many.
