This program started because of feedback from team members and so far, the sessions have been productive and motivating.
“I want to do what I can to help and reward our team, especially those that want to step up,” Ellen shared.
The aim of the program is to promote positive work culture among existing team members and new starters, and to help new starters feel supported and valued.
Upon starting, the new starters will be paired with a Buddy Champion who has dedicated time to introduce them to the team and to show them the ropes.
The community’s first Buddy Champion is Personal Support Worker Peter, who has been with Arcare for six years, starting out at Arcare Keysborough and is now at Arcare Eight Mile Plains.
“When I first heard about this program, I immediately put my hand up for it. I enjoy training and helping people and I know what it’s like to be new and to need a friendly person to talk to at a new job,” Peter said.
“It’s such a great program and I’m looking forward to helping out the new starters.”
Registered Nurses Kirandeep and Tamara, and Cleaner Trish have also undertaken the Buddy training in an effort to become Buddy Champions.
