The Queensland Youth Orchestra recently made a special appearance at Arcare Caboolture, wowing the aged care residents with a beautiful performance as a special early present for resident Betty Watson’s 90th birthday.

Residents and Arcare team members were delighted to enjoy an afternoon of classical music by 30 members of the 100+ strong orchestra.

Betty has a special connection to the youth orchestra. Decades ago, she and the local doctor she previously worked for founded an organisation called the Voluntary Community Services, in which they raised funds to support their community.

In the eighties, one of their patients had sons in the Queensland Youth Orchestras and so they started to support the Orchestra with bursaries.

In 1993 and 1999, they were a major sponsor of the Queensland Youth Orchestra’s trip to
North Queensland.

Betty was left with the organisation’s funds and donated $280,000 to the Queensland Youth
Orchestra’s last year.

“I felt and I pushed for the Queensland Youth Orchestras, thinking we could bring some
culture into the North,” she says.

“I just love them. I didn’t sleep last night with excitement at seeing them again. Nothing will ever top this.”
