People of Arcare - Louise Hargrave

For this week’s edition of #PeopleofArcare we introduce Louise Hargrave, Residence Manager at Arcare Kanwal.
People of Arcare

What do you enjoy about your role?

I enjoy the collaboration with all members of the team and the autonomy I have for making improvements to the processes and practices. I love the variety of the role, working with customers both internal and external, as well as with clients to ensure we exceed expectations. I work best when I am challenged, and Kanwal offers this opportunity. Of course, I work in aged care because I like to help others, be that clinically or by just having a chat.

How does this company differ from others you’ve worked for?

Arcare’s reputation has always been for providing aged care in an elite environment and this differs from the local competitors. The focus on relationships and dedicated care to clients is also a standout. The endless support I have received from the corporate team and my direct line managers has been beyond my expectations.

What do you love about Arcare and working in Aged Care?

I have worked in health for many years but particularly in aged care I can provide client-centered care that ensures individual needs are met at the end of their lives. I can make a positive difference in the lives of our most vulnerable population and learn so much from their experiences. Working for Arcare Kanwal in particular, I am very proud to show new clients, families, and staff members our residence and the great things happening here.

What tips or advice would you give to someone looking to work in Aged Care?

Arcare is a fantastic company to work for and I would highly recommend them. In aged care generally, listen to clients as they often know what is needed, how to achieve it and have found many work arounds during their lives to overcome adversity. Always be open to learn from others as most people are willing to share their experiences so you don’t make the same mistakes.

What are your hobbies? What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

My happy place is near the water; boating, a little fishing, walking the beaches or lake but I spend most of my weekends at basketball courts watching my daughter or professionals play. I also love to travel within and outside Australia and have been to 50 countries so far.

What is your special talent that you enjoy doing outside of work? How did you learn this talent?

I can play the clarinet and have done so for many years, having learnt during my early school days.

Can you share one fun fact about yourself? It could be an interesting experience that you had, a quirky talent or your favourite recipe.

Many years ago, whilst travelling the world, I was held at gun point having out stayed my visa and had to demonstrate a jumping kangaroo to prevent being taken to a Russian jail.
