For this week’s edition of #PeopleofArcare we introduce Samana Dhakal, Registered Nurse at Arcare Warriewood. She has worked for Arcare since 2019 and she has mentioned that “being able to assist people at their most vulnerable and unexpected times is what I find most fulfilling about my profession as a nurse.”

What do you enjoy about your role?

Being able to assist people at their most vulnerable and unexpected times is what I find most fulfilling about my profession as a nurse.

How does this company differ from others you’ve worked for?

Bringing Arcare values to life in every single interaction; that is respect, options to make choices, valuing them and sharing stories. This make Arcare different from others.

What do you love about Arcare and working in Aged Care?

A sense of purpose. Many people who have experience caring for a loved one at home choose to work in the aged care industry. Being in someone’s life and being able to contribute to improving their day and overall quality of life is truly heartwarming. Arcare values teamwork and working in a team atmosphere is very enjoyable, and I have gained a lot of knowledge from working with other team members.

What tips or advice would you give to someone looking to work in Aged Care?

Be prepared to multitask.
Be supportive, caring and patient.
Being physically and emotionally fit.
Good attitude and initiative to do good for people.
Be a good listener and communicate.

What are your hobbies? What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Gardening, travelling, cooking, and having exquisite food.

What is your special talent that you enjoy doing outside of work? How did you learn this talent?

Painting, I used to take part in school annual activities and have won couple prices for the same.

Can you share one fun fact about yourself?

When I was young, I wanted to be a TV presenter for the news, I used to read newspapers and magazines in both English and Nepali language to my audience who were my family. They used to praise me and would ask for my autograph.
