On Friday the 13th of October we had our annual dinner dance which brings together all the Arcare Communities in the North West of Melbourne under one roof for a night full of music, dancing, and sharing good food and great company.
It really was a sight to see so many families, staff and residents kicking up their heels on the dance floor. We even had residents dancing in wheelchairs to the wonderful music performed by Natalie Jay, who sung many hits that you just couldn’t resist getting up and dancing to!
Ted, who is one of our lovely residents, thoroughly enjoyed the evening. He said ‘The music that was played was very appropriate for the night and it brought back such fond memories of going out to social dances with my late wife.
We loved going out to the local dance halls, and I even remember one night my wife and I actually cleared the dance floor as people stood back to just watch us dance, as I admit we were very good dancers and we danced so well together.
I do miss those days but it was wonderful to relive them at the Arcare Dinner Dance with my daughter who accompanied me on the night as my partner.’
Gwen, who also enjoyed the evening, commented on how fun it was to dance with her daughter Heather.
She said, ‘I used to love dancing. It was one of my hobbies when I was young.’
Daisy, who used to teach ballroom dancing at Leggett’s Ballroom Prahran, enjoyed showing off her moves on the night.
The Arcare dinner dance is now an annual event that has become increasingly popular over the last two years.
There has been such positive feedback from family members that have attended. John, a son of one of our residents, said to have him ready on the list for next year’s dance. He said he wouldn’t miss it for the world!
It is a wonderful social event that brings a real feeling of comradery among the staff and families.
