In October, the Arcare Keysborough community celebrated the Hindu festival of lights, Diwali.
Diwali is one of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, and to celebrate the holiday, team members came to work dressed in bright coloured garments, including traditional Indian attire.
Arcare recognises the importance of celebrating the holidays, traditions and cultures of the clients and team members within our communities. With many team members at Arcare Keysborough, coming from an Indian and/or Hindu background, the lifestyle team saw the importance of recognising and celebrating Diwali and Indian culture.
Diwali is typically celebrated over five days and it coincides with Hindu New Year. The festival of lights celebrates new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.
Team members, clients and visitors were invited to share a special Indian lunch, which was especially prepared by Arcare’s onsite chef. The clients particularly enjoyed the mild butter chicken and rice option. Arcare would like to thank the kitchen team for the ongoing hard-work and for providing the scrumptious feast for the Diwali celebration.
After everyone had finished their lunch, team members and volunteers invited clients up to dance. Lively Bollywood music blared through the speakers in the meeting hall, as key team members showed off their dance moves. Some clients enjoyed dancing the afternoon away, while others preferred to sit back and watch the festivities. Many clients also took the opportunity to get a photo with their dedicated carer.
