There have been many inspirational moments witnessed during visits from Peregian Primary to Arcare Peregian Springs, for both students and clients.
Intergenerational interaction has benefits for both the elderly and the young.
Peregian Springs client Betty isn’t usually one to speak up and often keeps to herself.
But when the students are visit, Betty comes to life with great emotion and excitement!
Betty absolutely loves talking to the young children and has a blast interacting with them.
This is such a moving experience for the team who often don’t get to see this side of Betty.
The children’s presence, their youth and their stories bring such joy to Betty; she would never miss a visit.
The activity has had the same inspiring impact on many of the students attending.
A young boy from Peregian Primary is very shy and also keeps to himself.
During his first visit to Arcare, the young boy introduced himself to Ray, who welcomed him with open arms.
The boy was so amazed by Ray’s stories and was entirely immersed in their conversations!
It was a special moment for his teacher to see him open up with Ray, as he would usually be very shy and quiet.
For many of the clients, the school students remind them of their own grandchildren; or even take them back to the years of being a young parent.
Clients love sharing their stories and knowledge from years of experience.
For some students who may not have their grandparents around, interacting with elderly would be something quite new.
The intergenerational interaction allows the students to not only become familiar with the older generation but allows them to learn about a lifetime so different.
It has been rewarding to see the special friendships and inspirational moments shared between the students and clients in Peregian.
