Some days, being a volunteer just excites me beyond belief.
Today I chose to bring into Arcare Sanctuary Manors. some of my own favourite music DVDS.
I wanted to share this with the clients during my afternoon volunteering shift.
Il Divo and Andrea Bocelli were two favourites that I wanted to share with the group of clients who were eager to spend Saturday afternoon with me.
Together, we indulged in my love of Italian Opera and my passion for spending time with our elders.
Maria Di Martino heralds from Italian heritage and is a new client at Arcare Sanctuary Manors.
She has found her feet and made many new friends from settling into the lovely courtyard room.
Maria tells me about her working days in a busy Italian restaurant in Melbourne.
She chats to me about her family recipes especially her famous Potato Gnocchi.
Who doesn’t love a good pasta dish made authentically?
This afternoon, it was my time to bring Italy back to her heart, with these wonderful singers performing many of the classic operatic tunes.
And the smile on Maria’s face for two hours was just priceless.
As the other clients gathered in the lounge, enjoying their afternoon tea, they too got a little taste of what Italy has to offer.
The smiles all around the room was just so special – particularly from our own Italian Woman of Substance – Maria Di Martino.
