Arcare Burnside – Mother’s Day
The Arcare Burnside community started off their Mother’s Day celebrations on Friday 8th May in a rocking way.
Lifestyle assistant, Ronnie stepped up to the stage to give the community an entertaining musical performance. With a voice like Elvis, Ronnie the crooner sang a range of classic love songs, that got many up and dancing.
During the performance, residence manager, Paola handed out a special Mother’s Day gift to all lovely mothers and grandmothers in the community, as well as a personalised card.
On Sunday 10th May, the Arcare Burnside community sat down together and were treated to two spectacular virtual musical performances from Australian sweethearts, Marina Prior and Rhonda Burchmore. Both performances were especially recorded for all the lovely ladies and mothers at all Arcare residences around Australia.
Arcare Cheltenham – Mother’s Day gifts
The ladies from the Arcare Cheltenham community were thrilled to receive an early Mother’s Day present, when the lifestyle team presented them each with a gorgeous bunch of flowers on Friday 8th May.
Team members went around to each of the ladies in the residence, hand delivering their flowers and wishing them a Happy Mother’s Day.
Arcare Craigieburn – Mother’s Day
To celebrate Mother’s Day, the Arcare Craigieburn lifestyle team organised a special photobooth; the photos intended to be a lovely gift for all the lovely ladies in the community.
Laughter could be heard coming from the photobooth, as the clients and team members posed and playing with the wacky props together.
The walls in the foyer were decorated with vibrant flowers and plants, and everyone enjoyed a special Mother’s Day lunch surrounded by the greenery.
Arcare Craigieburn – Shining blue for Victoria Police
In acknowledgement, support and as a sign of respect for the amazing Victoria Police Force, the Arcare Craigieburn community wore blue on Thursday 7th May.
The recent tragic loss of four police officers on Victorian roads, hit hard for many within the community, and the Arcare Craigieburn community thought it was important to show their respects in this way.
Arcare Keysborough – Celebrating Vesak
On Thursday 7th May, the Arcare Keysborough community celebrated the Buddhist holiday, Vesak.
Vesak commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha in Theravada and Tibetan Buddhism.
Normally Arcare Keysborough clients and their families would go to the temple together, however this year due to COVID-19, the lifestyle team stepped up to make the holiday special for all.
“We believe that it’s important to support clients’ religious belief, cultures and tradition in any way that we can. It’s so valuable for the community to learn about alternate belief and cultures to their own.” Lifestyle cooridnator, Alison said.
The kitchen team prepared special food for the clients, and volunteer, Daniele created informative posters about the holiday to share with the community.
Arcare Maidstone – Mother’s Day
To celebrate Mother’s Day, the Arcare Maidstone lifestyle team hosted a special ladies high tea.
The wonderful onsite chef, Hemal especially prepared a variety of sweet treats such as cakes, scones and cookies for the ocassion.
Clients, Eileen and Betty complimented Hemal on the lovely food, but both agreed that Barbara makes the best pot of tea in the community.
The ladies spent much of afternoon chatting amongst themselves, before the lifestyle team presented each of the ladies with a personalised Mother’s Day gift.
“Every mother and lady is special in our eyes, and they deserve to be spoiled.” Lifestyle cooridnator, Mary said.
Arcare Malvern East – Student pen-pals
Recently the Arcare Malvern East community received two dozen letters in the mail from the students of Korowa Anglican Girls School.
The letters were addressed to the clients, and in them, the students introduce themselves and detail what they have been doing during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the end of the letters, each of students encourage the clients to write a return letter and become their pen pals.
Many of the clients were excited by the prospect of forming new friendships and having something else to do in the day.
Arcare Nirvana – Happy Cinco de Mayo!
On Wednesday 6th May, the Arcare Nirvana community celebrated Cinco de Mayo.
Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexico’s victory over the French in 1862 Battle of Puebla. The holiday not only marks their victory, but it also considered a day to celebrate all Mexican heritage and culture.
During the Arcare Nirvana community’s celebrations, lifestyle coordinator, Delia shared the story of the celebration and the ways in which the holiday is traditionally celebrated with the clients.
In the afternoon, the clients enjoyed a Mexican party, which consisted of socialising, tequila cocktails and some yummy nachos.
Arcare Reservoir – The joy of having your hair done
Arcare Reservoir client, Joan was thrilled to finally be able to have her hair done at the onsite hairdressing salon.
A team member offered to help Joan cut and style her hair while in the precautionary lockdown, and Joan couldn’t have been more grateful; it really is the simple things that can make all the difference.
Arcare Surrey Hills – Mother’s Day high tea
On Friday 8th May, the ladies of Arcare Surrey Hills enjoyed a Mother’s Day & Women’s Appreciation Day High Tea. The lifestyle team hosted the high tea, which included colourful cupcakes, beautiful decorations on the walls and tables, wine and prizes for all to enjoy.
On arrival, the clients were greeted with a raffle ticket, a wine or tea and a beautiful place setting.
“It’s different from other years, but it’s beautiful, a lot of effort has gone into this afternoon to make it special for us” Arcare Surrey Hills client, Hazel said.
After enjoying a wine and some treats, the ladies were given a Mother’s Day quiz, which filled the room with laughter. Then came the most anticipated event of the day, the Mother’s Day raffle. Ten of the lovely clients were lucky to have their raffle ticket drawn, each winning a prize.The prizes included scarfs, perfume, chocolates, notebooks, and pamper sets.
It was a beautiful day enjoyed by all clients and team members. A big thank you was given to the lifestyle team from all the clients.
“I love my job and look forward to coming to work every day; it’s very fulfilling work!” Lifestyle coordinator, Rachel said.
Arcare Templestowe – Strength & balance exercise class
To help keep the clients at Arcare Templstowe fit and healthy, the onsite physiotherapist team run strength and balance classes twice a week.
The physio’s have developed a versatile program, which allows clients to complete the class and exercises either seated or while standing.
