Arcare Glenhaven’s much loved volunteer Muffin, and her owner Joan, recently gave residents a surprise with a hidden talent they have kept up their sleeves.
Joan and her border collie Muffin often visit residents at Glenhaven for a play and a pat.
One resident in particular has had marvellous improvement with her overall mood and anxious behaviours from seeing Muffin.
During one recent visit, Lifestyle Coordinator Chloe found out that Joan and Muffin are State Champions in dancing.
If the fact wasn’t enough of a surprise, Joan and Muffin shocked Chloe with a few example dance moves – they could dance!
‘Joan offered to come and do a performance for all the residents, if they would be interested’ said Chloe.
‘I knew straight away they would love it.’
The week leading up to the performance, Joan and Muffin were the talk of the town at Glenhaven.
Everyone was so curious as to what this dancing dog performance was and if it really was a real dog!
Joan and Muffin had such a big crowd awaiting their performance.
From the moment they started, the entire crowd was laughing and smiling as they watched them dance and do tricks.
They were in disbelief of how talented they were.
Of course, Muffin couldn’t go home before having a cuddle with the residents.
The morning was filled with joy, laughter and genuine excitement.
When Muffin now comes for her regular volunteer visits, residents are cheering and insisting they see a few tricks and moves.
Joan and Muffin’s contribution to the happiness and wellbeing of our residents is always truly appreciated.
Arcare residences always welcome visits from family pets and pet therapy dogs – we all love a furry friend!
