National Guidelines for Spiritual Care in Aged Care
In August 2016, the National Guidelines for Spiritual Care in Aged Care were released by Meaningful Ageing Australia, the peak Australian body for spiritual care and ageing. The guidelines ensure that the spiritual needs of those in residential aged care are being understood and met.
Arcare Strategy and Innovation Manager, Daniella Greenwood, was part of the Project Advisory Group who developed the guidelines.
At the heart of the guidelines are the core values of respect, compassion, inclusion and dignity. Underpinning these values and central to spirituality is the importance of meaningful relationships.
Our relationship-focused approach fosters close and committed relationships. This is furthered by our Dedicated Staff Assignment where trusting and intuitive relationships are built between carer and resident. Staff are committed to working with the same small group of residents each time they come to work, providing consistency and allowing the development of close bonds.
