Usually it’s the race at 3pm that stops a nation but for the clients of Arcare Glenhaven, it was the morning fashion on the runway that captivated their attention.
The morning started with the fashion on the runway and all clients were invited to have their photo taken in front of the Melbourne Cup backdrop prior to walking down the red carpet to show off their beautiful outfits and fascinators.
Many of the male clients got involved in the event as well by escorting some of the lifestyle members down the carpet or other female clients. Many of the clients enjoyed the spotlight and had lots of fun cheering and encouraging each other as they paraded down the red carpet.
After the fashion parade was complete the clients then competed in the Glenhaven Cup. Each client was given their horse name and were able to compete in the horse race. There was even a staff heat which the clients loved to watch and cheer them on. Client Jeanette Davey was crowned the winner of the final race and was presented the Glenhaven Cup.
One of the most exciting days I have had in a long time’ client Lore told the lifestyle team.
Finally, all clients participated in the Melbourne Cup sweep. They carried with them their horse’s name to the lounge room parties, so they knew who to cheer for once the race began. While waiting for the race to start they enjoyed sharing hot food and drinks amongst each other. Each winner of the sweep was given a block of chocolate as their prize, this went down a treat.
‘Even though I didn’t win, I still enjoyed watching the race with everyone’ said Elaine.
After the race was done everyone retired to their rooms after a fun filled day of activities.
‘Today was so much fun, I look forward to doing it all again next year’ Cecil said as she made her way back to her room.
