Arcare Oatlands’ Hawaiian themed day took everyone on a trip to a colourful paradise full of dancing and festivities!
Staff and residents dressed in their brightest colours and Hawaiian leis, walking down corridors decorated with pineapples, boogie boards and rainbow streamers.
Between all the dancing, residents hula-hooped, limbo-ed, played ‘pass the pineapple’, raced with beach balls, sipped on fruit punch and even had a Hawaiian themed musical exercise session!
Resident Savka told her carer, ‘That was the best day I’ve had!’
‘It was a very special day,’ said Mieczyslaw, ‘A lot of fun!’
Jacko was awarded the ‘Best Dressed’ for the theme on the day as he rocked his white slacks and palm tree shirt.
His certificate is now proudly displayed in his suite.
Residents also moved to the actions of tropical songs such as ‘Agadoo – Black Lace’ as part of their daily exercise.
Staff were overwhelmed to see almost every Oatlands resident out of their suites to share in the fun of Hawaiian Day.
‘They had an absolute blast’ said Lifestyle Coordinator Nilli, ‘Some of them wouldn’t have hula-hooped or limbo-ed since they were a child.’
Residents were encouraging each other to take part in the activities, helping each other limbo, dancing together and cheering each other on during the games.
‘It was so great to see both staff and residents dancing together,’ said Manager Louise Temminghoff.
‘They weren’t there as employees, they were there as friends.’
The next special themed day has already been booked and planned after the fantastic feedback received from Hawaiian Day.
Residents, staff and families are all preparing for the big Elvis Day coming up late September!
