Arcare Knox client, Gwen is painting away the stigma of aging by getting involved in the community’s activities and trying something outside of her comfort zone.
Gwen hadn’t done any sort of drawing or painting since her schooling days. However when Gwen moved in the aged care residence, she wanted to keep herself active by engaging with the community, so she decided to try out Arcare Knox’s art class.
Gwen hoped that the class would help her push her boundaries, increase her self-confidence and help her make a few new friends in the process.
Although Gwen thought that her artistic skills would be have faded over the years, she soon discovered that she had a natural talent and was quite creatively inclined.
After attending her first art class, Gwen felt incredibly proud of the art she had created, and she vowed to return the following week.
Gwen has been attending the art class ever since, always arriving first, bright and early on Monday mornings, as she is keen to get started on her work. Gwen has created some amazing pieces during her time in the class, and she now proudly displays many of them around her suite, even framing a few.
“This is the best program. I have so much fun, and I really enjoy creating something different every week.” Gwen said.
Gwen’s is a testament to how you’re never too old to take up a new hobby, or try something new. Gwen’s positive attitude and encouraging story has even started to convince a few other clients, to try something new and attend more lifestyle activities.
