Today we introduce Nazmeen Lax, Administrator and Receptionist at Arcare Slacks Creek. Naz has been working within Arcare for over 12 years, and she believes that one of the most important parts about working in aged care is “patience, and compassion, but the job is so fulfilling and rewarding.”
What do you enjoy about your role?
I love listening to the residents’ stories about their lives. I love being able to help them and their families with any of their needs.
How does this company differ from others you’ve worked for?
Arcare uses a centred care approach for each individual resident, and I believe that is very important. They also provide a lot of training and support for all staff.
What do you love about Arcare and working in Aged Care?
Getting to know all of the residents and their families, the relationship that I build with them and being able to help with the process of them moving in and helping them settle.
What are your favourite stories of working at your residence / with your team / with a client?
There are so many, but one particular story that stands out to me. One of our female residents had always wanted to ride on a motorcycle. Our lifestyle and Admin team together with the family arranged for her to be taken on a ride for her 100th birthday and she had the time of her life. Making their wishes come true, helping with that was a wonderful and heartfelt experience for me.
What tips or advice would you give to someone looking to work in Aged Care?
You need to have patience, and compassion, but the job is so fulfilling and rewarding.
What are your hobbies? What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love to go out with friends, reading, watching movies and Brazilian Zouk dancing.
What is your special talent that you enjoy doing outside of work? How did you learn this talent?
I love making cards. It started with getting together with a friend and just creating.
