People of Arcare – Penelope Bartlett

We learn more about Penelope Bartlett also known as ‘Penny’ to the Arcare North Lakes community in Queensland. Penny is a Cafe assistant with over four years of experience at Arcare. Here is Penny’s story:

Q. What do you enjoy about your role?

Working in the social setting of the cafe is very enjoyable. Caring for our Arcare North Lakes community and having good rapport with residents, and their family and friends is very rewarding.

Q. How would you describe working in aged care?

I enjoy being able to make a positive difference in a resident’s life. I find it very rewarding when building these positive relationships across the Arcare community.

Q. Fondest memory so far in your Arcare journey?

Due to the restrictions last year, we had less visitors to the cafe and so, I would take the cafe trolley stocked with goodies and beverages and walk around to each room and community lounge to offer a refreshment, conversation and spend time with the residents.

Q. What tips or advice would you give to those looking to work in aged care?

Patience and a caring attitude is a must, our elders deserve to be treated with care, love and respect.

Q. What do you do outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with my daughter, Jeanie and enjoying a good meal trying out different restaurants. We moved to Queensland in 2015 and so enjoy exploring and seeing the sights that Queensland has to offer.
