People of Arcare – Tremayne Jenkins

Today we sit down with Tremayne Jenkins, Administration Assistant/Receptionist at Arcare Malvern East who has some ‘pearls of wisdom’ about teamwork and the rewarding benefits of working in aged care. Read the full interview below.

How long have you been working at Arcare?

I have been working at Arcare for 4.5 years

What do you enjoy about your role and working in aged care?

The most enjoyable part of my role is meeting and getting to know a variety of people, in particular our wonderful residents, and their family members.  There is a warm, welcoming community feel at Malvern East and I enjoy all the conversations, stories, banter and laughs with the people I meet.

Being surrounded by caring, dedicated and supportive colleagues is definitely another highlight.

Working in aged care is rewarding. Knowing that what you do makes a positive impact on the people in your care and provides peace of mind for their families is so gratifying.

What memorable moment or story you recall working at your residence with either a resident or a team member?

Over the years I have gathered numerous memorable moments and they are all special to me.   A couple that occurred recently include,

Singing ABBA tunes with the residents.  We held an ABBA appreciation activity, I presented some fun facts on ABBA, and we sang along to some music video clips.  We have quite a few ABBA fans at Malvern East!

The other was being presented with flowers from the Malvern East residents and staff in recognition of “Aged Care Employee Day”.  This was a complete surprise, and I was touched by the lovely gesture and acknowledgement.

What pearls of wisdom or words of encouragement do you live by?

Make an effort to connect with the people you meet.

Get to know the person, listen to them, and share meaningful conversations.  You gain so much from really getting to know those around you.

What hobbies or interests do you have outside work?

I have two amazing children and most of my spare time revolves around them, watching them play sport, general taxi driving duties etc..

I also enjoy working on general projects around the house.

On a creative note, I was recently gifted a paint by numbers project, which I’m determined to finish!
