People of Arcare – Tim Alexander

Our meals are prepared fresh on site and our team members engage directly with residents in planning menus and gathering feedback on their dining experiences.

Today we sit down with Tim Alexander, QLD Catering Services Manager who has some ‘pearls of wisdom’ about teamwork and lifting one another up. Read the full interview below.

What is your name, role and how long have you worked at Arcare?

My name is Tim Alexander and I’m the QLD Catering Services Manager. I’ve been in my role just over 3.5 years now.

What’s your journey at Arcare, have you started in one role and transitioned to another?

I started in my role with the aim to provide the best possible food on a consistent basis, with the most talented chefs we can recruit! We have such a great team here in QLD.

What do you enjoy about your role and working in aged care?

I enjoy building catering teams that we know can deliver each and every day, that in turn bring enjoyment to our clients with the food and drink served in each service.

What is a memorable moment or story you recall working at your residence with either a resident or a team member?

A most memorable moment for me is being able to transform casual chefs that come onboard from different backgrounds into full time Arcare chefs and seeing them really enjoying their work has a great impact on me.

What pearls of wisdom or words of encouragement do you live by?

The ‘pearls of wisdom’ that I live by is to always work as a team, back each other up, respect each other and have fun and enjoyment while at work, as catering can be challenging at times and supporting each other is crucial.

What hobbies or interests do you have outside of work?

My hobbies are watching AFL and coaching, catching a few waves at Burleigh beach and just hanging out with my 2 sons fishing or playing sports. Plus cooking a great BBQ in my backyard!

What would you tell future aged care workers?

To future aged care workers: the fulfilment and pleasure residents express after eating the fantastic food we serve can really bring a smile to your face, and to know that family members are satisfied that we are looking after their loved ones gives me great pride and it’s something you will never forget.
