Arcare Aged Care shares more about Snowleena Mahajan, Lifestyle Assistant at Arcare Carnegie.
How long have you been working at Arcare?
I started to work at Arcare in 2015 and am now in my sixth year here.
What do you enjoy about your role and working in aged care?
I come from a cultural background that encourages family values. In my role as a lifestyle assistant, I work in a team entrusted to keep the residents active, and in good mental and social health. When I work with the residents, I feel as though I am taking care of the elders in my own family. I feel very satisfied when I am able to bring a smile on to their faces.
What is a memorable moment or story you recall working at your residence with either a resident or a team member?
There have been a few stories that I can think of and it’s so difficult to choose just one. I have forged strong friendships with the residents at Arcare Carnegie. Once I had forgotten to bring my lunch from home and when the residents came to know about it, my office was flogged with residents bringing coffee & cake for me. I was overwhelmed with the affection shown by the residents and had a few tears in my eyes.
I had gone on annual leave for a few weeks and upon my return to work, I was given a very warm and emotionally touching welcome by the residents. Some of them went on to say that they missed me a lot during the time which is a testament to our working relationships.
What pearls of wisdom or words of encouragement do you live by?
The only words of encouragement that keep me going in challenging times is something that my husband always says to me “whenever you give a little love, it comes right back”.
What hobbies or interests do you have outside of work?
Outside work, I love to travel, cook and listen to music.
