Arcare Aged Care Community Stories – March 23 to March 29
March 23 – Arcare Slacks Creek – Gardening in the courtyards
With the help of lifestyle assistant Monica, Molly ventured the path surrounding the building to find more plants she could nab a cutting from to add to her garden.
Around the residence, we found geraniums in different colours and some cute little succulents.
As we ventured for more plants, we experienced the wonderful smell of the beautiful blossoming gum tree and picked some gardenias to enjoy their flowery scent.
Even when the Arcare Slacks Creek community are in precautionary lockdown, it does not stop the clients from staying active and finding ways to keep up their hobbies!
March 24 – Arcare Springwood – Edna inspires
On Tuesday 24th March, during the preventative lockdown period, the clients at Arcare Springwood continue to inspire and motivate us.
To Physio Aid John, Edna is one such client. She is one of the reasons why John is proud of his work.
‘I thank Edna for the motivation and commitment she has during the daily exercise sessions. If it wasn’t for her and her persistence, I would not be able to do what I do. But we made it and we achieved it together. So well done and thank you Edna!’ John shares.
Hilda is another champion who has successfully achieved better posture, specifically on her right leg after taking part in regular walks.
For people who have experienced a stroke, achieving as little as 5 degrees of movements on the affected side is a life-changing achievement.
March 24 – Arcare Taigum – Ice cream trolley
Here at Arcare Taigum, we have found different ways to lift the spirits of clients during the preventative lockdown period.
Our Ice Cream Trolley is a crowd favourite as everyone always looks forward to their strawberry ice cream in cones.
Upon receiving their ice cream, they always have a big smile on their faces.
March 25 – Arcare North Lakes – Activities Trolley
During the preventative lockdown period at Arcare North Lakes, the lifestyle team has had to adapt to the changing situation by implementing new and innovative ways to keep the clients engaged and stimulated.
For example, they have introduced daily calendars instead of monthly calendars.
Lifestyle Co-ordinator Maree and Lifestyle Assistant Catherine have been busy bringing around their activity trolley full of craft, newspapers, magazines and activity booklets.
They also go suite to suite to distribute their residence newsletter which contains relevant updates for the clients.
They have been conducting 1-to-1 prayer sessions with clients, clients have been making cards for families, they get to watch Virtual Reality movies and enjoy armchair travel.
Skype sessions with families are also being facilitated.
March 25 – Arcare Helensvale St James – Providing online access
In the morning of Wednesday 25th March, client Ion (John) requested for a laptop to access his daily Romanian news online and to watch his online religious sermon.
This request was quickly put together by the Arcare Helensvale St James Lifestyle Co-ordinator Linda who arranged it all.
John was very happy with the set-up as he enjoyed going about his daily routine.
March 25 – Arcare Parkwood – Bingo
Clients at Arcare Parkwood enjoyed a game of bingo in the residence café, with Lifestyle Co-ordinator Tadeja calling out the numbers.
The clients were seated apart from each other to ensure social distancing rules were being applied.
March 26 – Arcare Slacks Creek – Pet therapy with Jellybean
Every week, Lifestyle Assistant Monica will bring in a special guest to the Arcare Slacks Creek residence – Jellybean, her 6-month-old puppy.
Jellybean brings so much joy to the clients and team members. As she is a small dog, she can fit into client’s arms, especially those who are in wheelchairs or princess chairs.
Monica is conscientious in wiping Jellybean regularly to ensure she is clean and ready to go meet her next friend!
The clients also sanitise well after interacting with Jellybean.
March 26 – Arcare Maroochydore – Rose’s birthday
We celebrated client Rose’s birthday with a high tea with a small group of friends.
The event was organised by the Lifestyle team at Arcare Maroochydore.
March 29 – Arcare Eight Mile Plains – Messages to families
Lifestyle team Simonne and Vanessa have been taking photos of clients with their consent and sending them to their loved ones at Arcare Eight Mile Plains.
Along with these photos, clients also have the opportunity to write a short and sweet message on a whiteboard, sending their well wishes to them.
March 29 – Arcare Helensvale – Phyllis’ birthday
Client Phyllis King celebrated her 89th birthday at Arcare Helensvale with a birthday muffin and her friends singing Happy Birthday to her.
