Arcare Aged Care Community Stories – March 30 to April 5
March 31 – Arcare North Shore – Birthday Celebrations
We celebrated two client birthdays at Arcare North Shore, Florence and Arthur. Florence was absolutely overwhelmed by the gifts she received, as well as a nice big chocolate cake. Arthur, who is not the biggest fan of cake, was treated to a different type of cake – a bacon cake!
Paired with one cupcake, chips and his favourite beer, Arthur was delighted with the thoughtfulness of Arcare North Shore’s team members. Families were able to share in the birthday celebrations through photos and videos.
March 31 – Arcare Slacks Creek – Letters from Mabel Park State High School
Our young friends at Mabel Park State High School are regular visitors at Arcare Slacks Creek.
However, due to the preventative lockdown, they are unable to visit. Instead of letting this stop them, the children decided to write to us instead!
The clients adored reading their kind messages and many have decided to write back.
Client Nevaeh wrote back straight away, thanking the children for their lovely letters.
April 1 – Arcare Parkinson – Crazy sock and hair day
Clients and team members at Arcare Parkinson have decided to hold a dress day each week to lift our spirits and keep us smiling! Today was Crazy Sock and Hair Day, with people joining in. It was great to see so many smiles around the residence.
April 1 – Arcare Slacks Creek – Virtual Sit Dance
Today, the clients of Arcare Slacks Creek kept active with virtual Sit Dance. Clients Jenny, Keith, Dee, Beverly, Marie and Irene had a great time dancing and singing along to fun dance routines designed for seniors.
April 2 – Arcare North Shore – Old friend Matey visits
Michael Edwards says he only thinks about two things, his daughter Gillian and his dog Matey. Matey has been Mike’s companion for many years and is a big part of his life.
Since the preventative lockdown at Arcare North Shore, he has been missing Matey more and more every day.
But what a wonderful surprise it was today when Matey was patiently waiting at the gate to visit his favourite human! Michael was absolutely speechless that his best mate had ventured out to spend a few precious hours with him.
Together they relaxed with Mike’s hand tenderly petting Matey’s head as he silently nodded off, surrounded by the comfort of his favourite human.
April 2 – Arcare Eight Mile Plains – Brita decorates Easter cookies

April 3 – Arcare North Lakes – Surprise visit for Mary
One of our clients, Mary had a lovely surprise visit from her family this morning through a social distancing window visit at Arcare North Lakes.
It was almost like a scene out of the movie ‘Love Actually’.
Mary got delivered an artificial tree which we were able to help her decorate with Easter egg ornaments, in the lead up to Easter.
Mary’s family also gave her a nice Easter card which was personalised just for her.
‘Thank you so much, my family are so thoughtful,’ Mary said.
April 3 – Arcare Helensvale St James – Shirley Brown’s 90th birthday
Shirley Brown at Arcare Helensvale St James turned 90 years old today! Although she could not be with family, she was surrounded by friends. Shirley also specially invited several team members to attend.
It was a perfect day, sitting outside with friends and team members enjoying her birthday High Tea. Shirley was thankful to everyone for their effort.
April 5 – Arcare Eight Mile Plains – Weekend Walks
Over the weekend, clients from the Kendall community and Arcare Eight Mile Plains team members went for a walk in the sun. They also enjoyed one on one discussions with Personal Support Workers.
The team at Kendall are always making sure the clients go outdoors to feel the warm breeze every day after their morning tea.
Mary-lise sat on one of the benches outside, chatting with Rhonda. Rhonda was a gymnastic coach and it is rare to see her sitting down as she loves walking.
While George isn’t George without his favourite hat that he always wears. He also loves to talk and sing with Ngar.
Valetina is always making Personal Support Worker Adisa laugh with the things she says. She’s quite the character and she will make you smile with her beautiful singing.
Every morning, Marjorie and Physiotherapist Juvalin will go for a walk outside.
Mr. Lam also loves walking everywhere. He always smiles and yells out ‘Hey!’ to everyone who greets him. He is a friendly and kind-hearted man.
