The highlight of August for many clients and team members is the annual Ekka celebrations at Arcare Taigum !
To make the event even more special, families, pets and the local day care children were also invited.
For the clients, the highlight was getting up close to many adorable farm animals! Everyone had the opportunity to pat, cuddle and hug lambs, goats, chickens, guinea pigs and piglets.
Mavis loved cuddling Ebony, the 3-week-old lamb on her lap. “I love all sorts of animals; they are all my favourite!”, she said.
Her friend Jean also said, “The lambs would make a great mascot for Arcare Taigum, don’t you think?”.
Stan in the kitchen team also prepared delicious Dagwood dogs and strawberry ice cream sundaes! Everyone commented on how the Stan’s strawberry sundaes tasted just like the ones at the Ekka, complete with strawberries at the bottom of the cone!
There were plenty of sideshow alley games like basketball, guess-the-lollies-in-a-jar, mini golf and knock down cans.
“I’m going to win something for meself!”, Jean said excitedly as she threw as hard as she could.
People both young and old stepped up to the challenge to guess the number of fantales and minties there were in a glass jar and some even guessed 300!
By bringing the Ekka to clients at Arcare Taigum, the Lifestyle team was able to help the clients relive their childhood memories of going to the Ekka.
“if the residents can’t go to the Ekka, then we’ll bring the Ekka to them!”, Kerry the lifestyle coordinator said.
