Arcare Taigum: Staying connected through COVID-19

Whilst many of the government restrictions have eased in Queensland, the clients and team members of the Arcare Taigum Community have been brushing up on technology skills and getting creative to stay connected to family and friends under COVID-19 lockdown.

We are delighted to share two of the Arcare Taigum community birthday stories below:

Lovely Eileen turns 99

Eileen took to technology quickly being able to pick up zoom calling and skyping her family through the COVID-19 lockdown with the help of the Arcare Taigum team members.

“You are never too old to learn” Eileen said.

As her birthday approached, it was not yet clear if visitors were permitted.

Luckily, the day Eileen’s birthday arrived, her daughters were allowed to visit and arrived with two big blue balloons in tow to wish her ‘Happy Birthday’ in person.

Eileen appreciated being able to celebrate with her daughters on her special day and commented “this was my best birthday ever!”.

Graceful Synonne turns 83

Many of the clients and team members at Arcare Taigum community have been making good use of Zoom technology to keep in touch with family and friends including Synonne who is regularly on call to her siblings and children in Brisbane.

On the day her birthday arrived, her daughter travelled up from Brisbane with birthday goodies and a delicious birthday cake to visit Synonne and celebrate her 83rd birthday.

Together, they connected on Zoom with her siblings and family members to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ and cheer as Synonne blew out the birthday candles.

It’s great to have technology tools that help the Arcare Taigum community stay connected and surrounded by family and friends online.
