Resident Ivy Barber celebrated her 100th birthday on Friday at Arcare Eight Mile Plains surrounded by her closest friends, including fellow resident Patricia and Carol and Arcare team members Adisa, Ruth and Vanessa.
The early birthday celebration included a colourful sponge cake, confetti and balloons, and a Hawaiian-theme.
Dressed in leis and Hawaiian shirts, residents and team members sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Ivy as she eagerly cut into her cake.
“It’s such a blessing to reach these milestones; we celebrate all birthdays at Arcare and especially the 100th birthdays,” Lifestyle Assistant Vanessa said.
When asked about what her secret is to turning 100, Ivy said that there is no secret, just staying active, a healthy diet and no drinking.
“Ivy is friendly, happy and she enjoys company, although she does enjoy quiet moments to herself sometimes,” Enrolled Nurse Ruth said.
Ivy’s actual birthday is on Sunday 22 August and she will be having a second celebration with her family on the day.
Ivy and her family will be driving to Mt Cootha and enjoying a lunch with a view at the restaurant.
