Arcare Hillside, one of our aged care residence in Sydenham, has played foster parents to a dozen chicks, watching the eggs incubate and hatch before their eyes – but not always. It has been a bit frustrating for some who’ve kept a very close vigil, only to take a quick break and come back to see another chick has pop out!
Someone who hasn’t missed a beat is Gwen Easton self-named “Chicken Keeper”. She’s kept a steady watch throughout, providing regular updates to staff and residents and caring for the chicks’ food and water. Fellow chicken guard is Kan, who had never seen a black chick until this program.
