Christmas with an Italian twist at Arcare Taigum

Our Italian Community at Arcare Taigum is certainly growing bigger and bigger over time.

We currently have seven Italian clients who reside with us at the residence.

Every two weeks, they get together in the morning for an Italian coffee catch-up in the café.

But on the 3rd of December 2019, instead of their coffee catch-up, they celebrated Christmas with an Italian twist.

The Care and Concern group from the Italian Catholic Federation in Aspley-Geebung coordinated the event at Arcare Taigum.

The activities room was filled with laughter and chatter as 19 people sat down to enjoy the party.

Family members of the clients also joined their loved ones in celebrating their Christmas party.

Together, they sung some Italian Christmas Carols with great gusto.

Melinda, daughter of client Maddalena, had been busy preparing some traditional baked goods ahead of the party.

Her cakes, biscuits and pastries were absolutely delicious and everyone could not help but go back for seconds and thirds.

To carry on their fortnightly tradition, our Barista Jennifer also prepared many cappuccinos to provide refreshments from the residence café.

Italians certainly love their cappuccinos!

From the carols, baked goods and drinks, one would have thought they had woken from a dream and found themselves in colourful Italy.

It was a great day celebrating all things important in their culture – a loving family and good food.

At Arcare Taigum, it is important to cherish and celebrate the multicultural backgrounds of all the clients.

From speaking the same language to learning more about each other’s cultures, we want to respect and embrace the diversity by providing opportunities like these.

And today’s Italian Christmas party was a great example of that as everyone had a fun time celebrating with their family and friends.
