Residents in our Arcare Parkwood community celebrated Mardi Gras 2021 with a dazzling display of diamonds, rainbows and feather boas.
And they had, not one, but four drag queens to shake things up at their party.
Residents may not have been able go to Sydney’s Mardi Gras, but Mardi Gras was certainly brought to them by the Parkwood team.
Our very own Personal Support Workers Phil (Muffy Marshall) and Sue (Frida Slaves) were dressed to impress in their ballgowns and party dresses, along with drag queens Tara Raboomdea and Emmeral Stone in their big wigs and sky-high shoes.
Entertaining the crowd with songs from the oldies, residents and team members were having the time of their lives as they sang and danced.
“This is great, I love their costumes and the music,” Resident Doris commented.
Over sixty residents and team members turned out for the dazzling event, dressed up in their brightest and quirkiest outfits.
From glitter and sequins to diamonds and feather boas, it was hard to decide on the winners for the Best Dressed competition.
But it was Resident Mary Johnson with her pink wig, glasses, feather boa and diamond necklace that outshone everyone.
“At 95 years old, you’ve just got to have fun and we certainly know how to celebrate here,” Mary said.
Resident Sylvia also won best dressed with her matching purple and pink mask and outfit.
And team members joined in the rainbow fun with fairy wings, tie dye shirts and a parrot costume.
During the event, residents also enjoyed delicious nibbles such as pink cupcakes and rainbow desserts, prepared by Chef Rudy and his amazing team.
