Dr Brian Oliver

On the 30th of June 1975, Dr Brian Oliver retired from his GP practice, The Margaret Street Clinic in Moonee Ponds. On the 1st of July 1975, Medicare and bulk billing started.

Dr Oliver foresaw the conflict that would arise between doctors with the introduction of Medicare, so he thought it wise to bow out and avoid the drama.

Dr Oliver had his practice for twenty three years, worked long hours and started when “Penicillin was a relatively new wonder drug”.

Dr Brian has many pleasant memories from each of his work fields he is no way sorry to be away from the modern merry-go-round, but still likes to keep his hand in as he tests Kerry’s blood pressure.

He retired from General Practices at the age of 51 went in to the state Health department till the age of 65 .

Dr Oliver is now happily residing at aged care facility Arcare Hillside in Sydenham.
