Ekka Fun Day

Preparations for the annual Arcare Slacks Creek Ekka Fun Day started early this week.

Residents and staff gathered together to wrap the prizes in colourful bows and ribbons.

Everyone was kept busy getting decorations in order and excitement was building with some residents already picking out which prizes they were hoping to win.

When the decorations were prepared and gifts wrapped everyone was feeling very accomplished with their efforts.

Resident Betty Kavanagh said, “I am always so hard on myself thinking I can’t do things but really with the encouragement and guidance of staff and my own will I can still be helpful.”

The morning of the Ekka fun day, all eyes were on Lifestyle, watching their every move as they set up Side Show Alley in the courtyard.

Everyone was eagerly waiting for everything to be set up and the fun and games could not start early enough.

Lorraine was the first person out in the courtyard and she got to spin the chocolate wheel, taste the fairy floss, and participate in the dart balloon game.

The balloon game was the biggest hit of the day, with cheers every time a balloon popped.

We had family members join and young ones doing balloon twisting, handing their creations out to some lucky residents.

Everyone was spoilt by the onsite chefs with some favourite fun fair treats such as Dagwood dogs and mini pies.

While some residents simply enjoyed sitting out in the sun watching the day unfold, everyone is looking forward to next year.

The reviews were unanimous, every year Arcare Slacks Creek Ekka Fun Day keeps getting bigger and better.
