Flowers and friendship

by Moira Evans

There was an instant connection between me and Lifestyle Coordinator Gloria, Arcare Kanwal’s lifestyle coordinator. There seemed to be a reason for us to connect, and I just knew we would be compatible.

Gloria had been working here for three years before I moved in. I’ve now been here for four years, and we still have a close friendship. We both have green thumbs, so we have been able to share our love of gardening and share our stories regarding about different types of plants.

Two years ago, while eating a Pink Lady apple, I found five seeds with a small white stalk in the core. Thinking that they were very rare, I decided to plant the seeds to see if they would grow. After some weeks, the plant came through. I planted two in separate pots: one for Gloria, and one for a close friend who lives at Little Hartley in the apple country.

Each season, I ask both friends about their tree’s progress. I enjoy looking after my courtyard and plants, and I enjoy sharing it with Gloria.

Despite the lack of fish of biting, it was the perfect conditions for the Kanwal Community to do a spot of fishing at Mackenzie Park, Budgewoi.

After walking along the scenic bridge and watching the kayaks pass by, a few residents enjoyed playing with the local children in the playground, followed by a picnic lunch.
