Ladies in Black

The ladies in the Brighton Community enjoyed a lunch and an afternoon at the movies, stepping back in time to Sydney in the 1950s with the movie ‘Ladies in Black’.

The movie brought back great memories for the ladies of the fashion and music of the 50s.

On the way home, there was many interesting discussions about the petticoats that women used to wear and how the men used to go to the pub for the six o’clock swill.

The ladies also remembered the women wearing black as they entered the department store, even in Melbourne.

‘This is living’

A group of ladies enjoyed spending a morning at the Bayside Arts and Culture Centre having a private tour and discussion.

Denise and Anita presented an insightful presentation on artist Rob McHaffie’s ‘This is living’ paintings which are centred around Brighton.

The stunning paintings sparked chatter among the ladies who reminisced about their early lives; many who lived in the area.

Gill commented, ‘I had forgotten how beautiful art can be. Busy, colourful, tranquil and harmonious; and how it makes us feel.’
