Meet the first residents at Arcare Logan Reserve, Neil and Shirley Parsons

We would like to extend a warm welcome to Neil and Shirley Parsons, the first residents in our Arcare Logan Reserve community.

Both Shirley and Neil have a keen sense of adventure and a love for life and people.

Their love story began 56 years ago when they met dancing at a club named Leggett’s Ballroom in Victoria.

“I saw this handsome man come up to me and we just chatted away,” Shirley said.

After getting married, they had two children together.

Shirley worked in the disability sector as a support worker while Neil was a truck driver for over 20 years.

They have travelled all around Australia for work and all around the world on cruises.

After suffering a stroke, Neil stopped working and kept busy with hobbies such as woodworking.

When Shirley lost her left leg to diabetes, their family knew that she needed the right support.

Fast forward to their first day at Arcare Logan Reserve, where Neil and Shirley are settling into their new home.

For lunch, they enjoyed rolled beef with seasonal vegetables while sipping on red wine.

And in the afternoon, they enjoyed an afternoon tea in the courtyard.

“This is a lovely place, it’s like a resort and it is very 5-star,” Shirley shared.

“And it’s nice to have someone look after the day-to-day activities like cleaning and laundry,”

They also met with the residence team and the personal support workers who would form part of their Dedicated Staff Assignments.

When asked about what they look forward to in this new chapter, Neil shared that he is looking forward to “better health, wealth and wellbeing.”

While Shirley shared with us that she “looks forward to staying active and working closely with the Physiotherapist on achieving her goal of walking again.”

Both Neil and Shirley are also excited to relive their dancing days by having a band come in and play some rock and roll music.
