To honour the bravery and service of many Australians who risked their lives for our country, our community of Arcare Oatlands held a Remembrance Day service for them.
The service was run by war veterans and residents at Arcare Oatlands, Beryl Stephenson, John Passmore and Gordon ‘Jacko’ Jackson.
Jacko did a reading of the poem ‘Abide With Me’ John read ‘In Flanders Fields’ while Beryl read The Ode.
We obtained the beautiful wreath from a florist in our local community and together, Beryl, Jacko and John carefully laid in down.
Jacko was once President of the National Servicemen’s Association of Toukley and Parramatta, after serving four years as a serviceman in the Australian Army.
Beryl also served in the Army in World War II and is a lifelong member of the RSL club.
She can still remember serving for three years in Newcastle on the artillery while her husband was on the machine guns down at the Kokoda track.
Also taking place during World War II, John had bravely served in the British Navy.
In honour of Beryl, John, Jacko and many other Australians, we thank them for their service during this Remembrance Day service at Arcare Oatlands.
