Remembrance Day in Victoria

Ceremonies marking Remembrance Day 2020 have taken place around the world, with dignitaries laying wreaths and taking a moment to remember. At Arcare, special virtual ceremonies took place in honour of the many stories that exist within our own community.

Arcare Caulfield

On Wednesday 11th November at 10:30am, the Arcare Caulfield community paid their respects all those who have served, by holding a Remembrance Day service.

83 year old veteran and Caulfield RSL member, Charles Hulson has been performing the ANZAC Day & Remembrance Day services at Arcare Caulfield for the past 6 years, and he wasn’t going to let the lockdown stop him from performing the service this year. Charles chose to pre-record a virtual service for the Arcare community to use on Remembrance Day. The community have formed a great friendship and relationship with Charles over the years, and everyone was very appreciative that he has taken the time to especially record the service just for them.

Just after the official service concluded, 99 year old Caulfield resident, Gunner was formally presented with his Commemorative medallion from the Department of Veterans Affairs, which recognised his service 75 years after the end of WWII.

Arcare Cheltenham

To recognise Remembrance Day, handmade poppies were made with love by the Arcare Cheltenham lifestyle coordinator, Susan; volunteer, Kyong and former receptionist, Karen. Many proud veterans within the community wore their medals along to the service, and afterwards shared their own war stories.
