The program encourages clients to think about, and choose what’s most important for them to do or experience. The client may choose to go on an outing, complete an activity or project or fulfill a dream of theirs; the program is designed to fulfill whatever their heart truly desires. It doesn’t matter if the request is big or small, as long it’s something that the client truly wants to do, the Arcare Knox lifestyle team will make it happen.
Sylvia approached the Knox lifestyle team, with a very clear idea of what she wanted to do with her time. Sylvia asked to be taken to visit her friend of 50 years, Marguerite. Marguerite, who currently lives in a different aged care residence, and is no longer able to travel to come and see Sylvia at Arcare Knox due to her own mobility issues. Sylvia had been talking about how much she had been missing her dear friend, and how she was looking forward to catching up with her.
The Arcare Knox lifestyle team enthusiastically said, “Not a problem!”, as they were eager to reunite two old friends.
Sylvia was beyond thrilled to see Marguerite, and they greeted each other with a warm embrace. The pair spent hours chatting over a cup of tea; just like old times.
Lifestyle team member, Bec said, “It was wonderful to see Sylvia and Marguerite catching up. It’s really important that we encourage our clients to stay connected to the wider community and their friends. I’m so glad that we were able to make this happen for Sylvia; it’s been such a rewarding experience for everyone involved.”
Sylvia’s smile said it all. It was clear that the experience gave Sylvia a renewed sense of purpose, as she was already talking about going back to see her friend again. Sylvia’s positive attitude and the Knox lifestyle team’s commitment to their clients, proves that nothing is impossible as you age, as long as you set your mind to it.
“This is the best thing that Arcare has done for me, and I can’t thank them enough.” Sylvia said.
